Create inclusive, diverse libraries inside each of the
twelve Hamilton County Opportunity Zone classrooms.

In August 2018, MSJ announced its next initiative: The Classroom Library Project. With the goal of encouraging and promoting literacy throughout Hamilton County schools and homes, MSJ plans to fund, install, and stock diverse libraries in at least 1 classroom per each of the twelve Opportunity Zone Schools in Hamilton County over the next year. It is the hope of Moms for Social Justice and the Classroom Library Project that these libraries not only include relevant and recently published works of children’s literature, but also be representative of the populations of children who will utilize them—teaching them more about the world and people around them and encouraging a love of reading.

We are proud to have partnered with ELLA Chattanooga, who is sponsoring books
for our remaining classroom libraries!

The Classroom Library Project operates entirely on donated funds, grants, and volunteer hours. We are currently at capacity for classroom library requests. If you're a Hamilton county teacher and would like a classroom for your library, please check back in 2020.

Donate Money
We accept monetary donations to help furnish classroom libraries with rugs, furniture, and of course, books! If you would like to sponsor a classroom library, please click here to fill out a contact form.
Donate Books

We're always looking for books that we can use in the classroom libraries we build—specifically books that are authored by and featured people of color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and other minorities.

To donate money, books, or time; or to sponsor a library, click the button below. Fill out a short form with your area of interest and we will be in touch!

Donate Time

As much as we love magic, these libraries just won't build themselves! We need all hands on deck as we go through the Hamilton County school system to build these spaces. We're always accepting volunteers to help us build our classroom libraries.
